Are Fleetguard filters only available online?. I have searched most auto parts stores in the St Petersburg area and no one seems to carry them.

You can get them directly from Cummins (I'm 40 minutes from Cummins Northeast), some truck stops, many heavy truck dealers..., just not likely to find them in you're local auto parts store.

You can also try any truck dealer for Freightliner, Pete, KW or the like.

HOHN,

What is the part # on this Donaldson filter you speak of? I have been using FG stratapore 3894 for many years in both of my trucks and have about 3 left. Might switch to the Donaldson if they are that much better.

Thanks.

I have cut a few filters open my self and agree the fram are the worst, almost all metal inside. the napa gold- wix and baldwin are my personal favorites. I've never cut open a fleetguard. I run the baldwin #BT339 because of its availability where I live, truck parts are easier to get then auto parts.

So it sounds like I need to get either a Donaldson or a Fleetguard.

Wow this helps out a lot in the protection of my truck.

Thanks guys

Remember,

As far as the fleetguard applications, you can always use a newer year but never an older year.

If you start looking it up, for the 5.9 cummins, you will see quite a few part #'s.

You can run a 2001 filter in a 98. Or a 99 filter in a 96. You should not run a 95 filter in a 98.

You will also notice the price goes up the newer you go!

LF3894 is a great filter and is good up till 2002.

John, it's the ELF7349 posted above by '97.

I researched the crap out of this filter before I was convinced it was worth leaving the Fleetguards for.

It turns out that this Donaldson filter is almost as much an improvement on the Stratapore as the Stratapore was over a plain cellulose filter (like WIX)

It's all about the nanofiber media.

INterestingly, this is the same media Amsoil is now using in their Ea line of oil filters, but I prefer that my filter says Donaldson on it, not Amsoil

jus

I buy all of my filters online from filterbarn.com. They have the cheapest prices for name brand filters that I've found, and free UPS shipping on orders over $100. The filters were shipped well packaged and arrived very quickly, so I couldn't be happier.

Their website is a little kludgy, but just do a search on the filter numbers you want. Here a link to the LF16035 Stratapore oil filter that will fit any of our Cummins trucks - only $8.28 each.....

I have a Mack dealer in town that carries fleetguard filters and Rosmella T oil.

Good prices too!

Just so you know, the only Stratapore filters for the 5.9 of any year in a Dodge are the 3894 and the 16035. The 3349 is the standard replacement filter for a 12v and has paper filter media.

Anyone know much about the Mobile One filters? I've been running one since I don't like running around town to try and find a fleetguard and I havent had any issues yet.

Hmmmm
This is just GREAT!!
I just installed a FRAHM on my truck!
Since I've owned this truck I've never changed the oil myself. I've always taken my vehicles to a carwash place that also did oil changes. For the longest an oil change with Quaker State on the wifes Intrepid was 25 bucks my truck was 48 with Rotella. (This included a car wash and interior cleaning as well.) About 1 yr ago the car went up to 32 and the truck 68. Well They changed owners and now the car is 48 and the truck is.... "I hope you're sitting down" 109 bucks. Holy Sheep Dip Batman!!
Well needless to say I decided I'll just change it myself from now on.
Here's a new question;
How do you remove the filter without pour oil all over the fender well? There didn't appear to be room to pull the filter down through the bottom but if I bring it up I have to tilt it to get it out.
How do you guys do it?

Couple small tricks for the oil filter. Firstly, get the air inlet hose and air box/system etc out. Drain the oil down and let it trickle for a few minutes while you grease the front end. This pulls down some of the oil out of the filter to avoid the gush once you loosen it. Then you can easily just drop it down an inch or so and tip it out/up. Some guys use a large freezer bag over it just to catch the drips.. I have never used a bag and never really spilled at all. The filter is usually down about 1" from the top by time I get it off.

Also don't forget to pre-fill the new filter before you install it.
