What oil filter to run?

What is the best oil filter to run?

Also does anybody set up an external oil filter system that goes through a transmission type cooler. How hot does the oil in the 12 valve cummins get because when i shut mine off after it gets to operating temperature the oil will smoke some out of the oil fill cap when i remove it, or is that normal?

Thanks Adam

As far as engine oil temp, I have a bone stock 95 12valve, and I can NOT get the oil temp above 195 F. It will run around 185 F most of the time. I don't know if I'm the rule or the exception, but I'm bone stock.

Donaldson Endurance. It has a more sophisticated media than even then fantastic Fleetguard filters.

If you can't get the Donaldsons (black canister), then there's certainly nothing wrong with a Stratapore. Microglass is the old filter-- I'd skip it.

I just got my shipment of 3 Fleetguard 3349 (stratapore???) and 1 Fleetguard fuel filter from geno's garage. I try to change my oil every 5.5-6K miles and I change my 2 oil two times and the third time I change the oil/fuel filters. I use 15w-40 Rotella, I might not have the perfect maintence schedule but I bet its alot better than alot of floks running around on the road.

The shop I take my truck too uses Donaldson (white fileters with blue writing I believe). Is there anything wrong with those, or should I be requesting something different?? I was trusting their judgement to use good quality stuff.
Thanks,
Steve

I run wix, when I bought my truck thats what the original owner had always run on it and I figure if they're good enough for nascar to run, they're good enough for me. Whatever you do dont use fram!!!!!! we had a filter cutter down at school and cut up several brand new filters right out of the box, fram was by far the worst. All the others were pretty close, the wix and fleetguard looked identical except for a rubber ring that was different colors.

Good enough for NASCAR? LOL! Are you going to be re-building your engine every week? Do you have a multimillion dollar budget? Is WIX giving you filters for free in exchange for promotion? Are you using the SAME filter, not just the same brand as the race guys? No? Then why the heck would you think that what a NASCAR team chooses for a filter has ANYTHING to do with your choice of oil filter?

There's nothing wrong with a WIX filter, but the rationale attributed to such almost made me laugh.

Hohn, I would bet they sell thousands of filters with that logic.. Marketing at its finest. Sorta like what kind of oil do top fuel dragsters use.. Who cares? it lasts 8 seconds tops.

Whats the word on the microglass? I think thats what the 3552 is isn't it? [gulp]
