What are the odds on the KDP pin falling out

Re:What are the odds on the KDP pin falling out
If the odds were 1 in 1,000,000 that would be to high for me on a $6500 engine.

Mine was 1/2 way out when I fixed it.

: Eddie : 8)

There was a poll on the TDR and results were about 15% which means 150 out of 1000. The curious thing was it was a very popular poll but "mysteriously" was pulled with no explanation. The engine is a $5,000 option so a new one is closer to $15,000 although you can get a re-built for $8,000 to $10,000?

CumminAtYa - Could you please tell us what caused you to replace the rings. Usually the Dodge chassis is what fails long before the engine.

It appears that a truck that is used hard e.g. pulling heavy loads, ( getting hot and cold) would be at far greater risk than one like mine that has been babied. I'm thinking I may be OK for another 100,000 mi. I would love to fix it cheap if it could be done around here, Pensacola,. or in Tampa St. Petersburg Fl area.

It's just too much for me to fix.

Northwest Cummins has new 12v starting at $7600.

Jimbo 1 I recommend you get that KDP fixed as soon as possible. IF it falls out it can cost some Big bucks to fix. I already have taken care of mine. Maybe take it to a good diesel shop in town. Good luck -Anthony
Even to do it the hard way without the jig there are plenty of resources to get it done. Dont hesitate to do this mine had a 100k on it and was babied without any pulling. My pin when I went to tabb it was over half way out and was easy enough to push back in with my finger.

Get it done and enjoy the comfort of knowning that it is taken care of on the long haul.

Trickytrae

I would love to get together with some members , if any, in the Pensacola Fl area. I would even travel 100 miles to get it fixed reasonably.

Re:What are the odds on the KDP pin falling out
My 97 had 180k on it when I bought it. I knew it had an oil leak when I test drove it but thought it was the crank shaft seal. After driving it for a couple of months I got tired of all the oily spots in the driveway. So I tore her down to change the seal but to my suprise I found this big CRACK :'( in the timing gear cover. I got to reading about this KDP ???on DTR. I had not known about this problem, I had seen the threads on KDP but didnt read them, because I didnt know what it meant. But let me tell you I KNOW NOW. I did not replace my timing gear cover, I had the crack mig welded, replaced and tabbed dowel pin. I know this isnt the way it should have been fixed. But with close to 200k on the motor, I couldnt see paying $1000-1500. I guess what I am trying to say is you cant afford to wait another 100k. These motors are tuff but not unbreakable.
