What are my transfer case options?

Last winter I beat the crap out of my stock 241 transfed case out of my 2500, It kept popping out of 4wd and doing lots of grinding. I found a 241dhd but it was for a manual tranny and I've got an auto, I didn't know there was a difference in the transfer cases??? I want a 214dhd because i need the extra strength and I want to do something with the pto option. I actually have one in my 3500. Can I use a different comparable case maybe from a newer truck? Can I only use a case designed for a dodge? Or, anyone got a 241dhd lying around?

I have an 02 with the 271 case. I have been having problems with it and just got it fixed. I was noticing a bucking when i turned and a chattering noise during acceleration. Come to find out, i was in 4wd!!! I never put it in 4wd. i pulled the transfer case which BTW is about a 30 minute job. Very easy, but i do have a car lift. I carried it to my transmission guy and he tore it down. The snap ring inside the tailhousing was snapped into. he said that caused the shaft to slide forward and engage the 4wd. Also, it ate the composite pads off the shifter fork and the fork had to be replaced. All together, parts and labor was only $297. I put it back in the truck yesterday and everything is like new. Just thought I'd tell you that before you went out and spent 1k plus on a new unit.

my 95 has the dhd and an auto. it's a 47rh not like your 47re, but search around and find out if they have the same output spline count and you probably can find a dhd for it. for some reason there are a lot of 95's in the junkyards.
