Arrow what do you need to check fuel pressure ?

hello

I have bought the special banjo bolt and plugged it into the outlet port on top of the fuel filter, with a grease gun hose i connected the special banjo bolt with a pressure gauge. Problem is the gauge is all over the map can't get a reading its jumping all over the place. What do i need to stop this ? Can't seam to figure this one out any ideas ?

Need a snubber of some sort. A friend hooked me up with an industrial snubber, but you can get a brass needle valve pretty cheap, and just crack it open so you get a steady reading. I ran my gauge without any of that when I first got it, and it would bounce up and down a good 15 psi. Now there is zero bounce in it.

Don't use the gauge until you install a snubber or needle valve barely cracked open or you'll trash the sender or gauge.
I prefer a needle valve because in the event that you have a leak it's easy to shut the valve.

I used JIC fittings. If it leaks, I just put a cap on the end of the snubber and its closed up.

hey thanks got a needle valve works like a charm, now i know i have low fuel pressure 12psi and its not the return valve/ line sooo I guess it i might pull the tank to see if the filter is clogged and or replace the lift pump what do you think is it worth pulling the fuel tank off ?

Did you pinch off the return line that runs behind the fuel filter with pliers and see what the pressure did?
I should hit at least 60 psi.
If it doesn't then you need a new lift pump.
If it does then the first place to start is with a new overflow valve.

Unless your prefilter at the fuel heater is badly plugged you can assume the tank filter is probably clean.
Prefilter cleaning> http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/filter/pre-filt_clean.htm
It the prefilter is really dirty it's easier to back flush the tank filter with compressed air from the supply hose that ends at the back of the block, fuel cap off, than it is to drop the tank and check.
The back flushing may not last long at keeping the pressure up if the tank is full of crud but it will give you a good indication where the problem is without the hassle of dropping the tank.
If the tank filter is plugging you'll need to flush the tank out clean otherwise you'll be dropping the tank again shortly.

yeah pinched off the return line and no change so I understood the next thing to do was check the filter in the fuel tank as it may be clogged with junk from bad fuel. After that if still there is low pressure then replace mechanical lift pump. I have taken the filter before the main fuel filter off and found a few little metal chunks but nothing major.
