what is canister under exaust manifold ?
looks like a heat transfer for trany fluid if thats what it is idont belive it to be a good place for cooling the fluid.. water goin in 190deg. min add 5 ton and an, incline then 1100 deg.turbo egts . com on man .maybe this typ of engenering is why i cant pull my new 28 ft 5th. in the summern time. well at least i dont over heat till i get to the first hill.bought a temp gun yesterday evening harbor freight $ 40. any body have an idea off temp. differance after coolant has traveled through radiator? 95 2500 cummins, auto,#6fuel plate .

Cooling the fluid is only half of the heat ex changer's job.
It also warms the fluid in cooler climates.
You really should install a tranny temp gauge if you're towing.

thanks , so cooling system keeps trans at best operating temp . good thing to have in winter or summer . im going to check temps before and after heat exchanger has done its job . may be ill make sence of a 1995 dodge cummins t/d that cant tow up a hill in the desert heat or if 28 ft 5er, 120 deg road temp, turbo ,inter cooler air cond and now heat exchanger are just over taxing my new radiator .got sum auto meter cobalts coming pyro, trans, boost.

When the TC is locked very little heat is generated.
If you install a cheap and easy lockup switch and use it wisely you can keep your temps way down.
