I was changing the fuel filter and while I had it off, I noticed that there is a unit that bolts to the engine block with the same bolts as fuel pump, and it is connected by a rubber hose. It has 2 separate electrical connectors going to it.

Anybody know what this unit is and what the purpose of the 2 electrical connectors are??

I found the top connector totally burnt off the unit. So it seems something is wrong with it.

It's the fuel heater and also contains a cleanable pre-filter screen. The wiring harness and heater element are availible seperately from Cummins, price isn't bad. I have the part numbers at a different computer, can post later.

 

I kind of thought it was some type of heater. Are there 2 different heating elements in the unit? There were 2 connectors plugged in it, that's why I ask.

I called the local Dodge *******, and they want $250 for the complete unit. I don't think it can be ordered as parts either. Not sure on the harness though.
