Whackamole, my personal KDP story

Is it just me or is this happening to a LOT of people recently? I know it happens all the time, but I'm reading a lot of people posting that theirs just fell out and I've talked to a few guys recently who've had it happen in the last few months. Many have resulted in total engine death. A few with other varying degrees of damage. It's just weird.
I'm gettin mine done in the next 2 weeks. I got a 98' 12-valve w/ 167K miles on it and I'm paranoid at this point. I just gotta order the right tab kit and seals (crank seal and front case seal I guess) and get a friend to help me out. I don't have the tools or experience to do this one w/ confidence.
And FYI, this can happen to people w/ trucks up to 02' 24-valves! Here's a thread w/ a dealer receipt from a major job fixing an 02' truck where the KDP took out the case and most of the gears:

Even the little 4BT has the KDP! Arrrggg
I've put this in a couple of other recent threads at this forum, please forgive the double-posting. This is muy importante my friends.
After all of this, I'm led to believe that Cummins intentionally put old cases in their 2002 trucks (they'd been putting the new case in their 2001 High Output motors) even though they had built new cases to address the problem. What could justify doing that? Needing to use up inventory (old timing cases) to save a few bucks - even though this problem kills a good percentage of their motors?!?! Or worse yet, they want you to be forced to buy another motor from them (or used) when yours gets killed from a $0.25 pin.
It's as if Cummins are like Jay Leno in the old Doritos commercials, saying "crunch all you want - we'll make more".
I'm not saying this is what I believe, but either way it's a REALLY poor reflection on an otherwise great company. Sooner or later someone's gonna have to face the music on this one. It's a huge turd in the punchbowl at this party!

I see the same thing going on. it looks like the KDP is raising its head this year! even if you own a 24V I would go after the bolts asap and lock tight them suckers in. If you have a spare couple of grand in the bank dont worry someone can fix it for you

I don't think there is any more damage happening than normal, there are just more people on CTD sites recently.
All of them I visit have started running out of bandwidth a lot since the first of the year, running slow.
I think this site even had to turn off the search function in the evening to keep up with the increased traffic just last week.

Lookie at what I found!
Checking the oil today, and making sure nothing was moving or leaking, I looked down at the Vacuum/PS pump, sure enough, there she was!
Figured I might as well show Y'all what a pin looks like after it goes thru the gears and case.
I am amazed it did not chip or kill a gear after seeing this thing.
I am thinking about having it Bronzed and hanging it from the mirror.!
