Wastegate

Wastegate
My buddy and I were looking at a used 1994 like mine a few days ago. It was sitting on the nearby dealers lot so we peaked under the hood. It looks like someone disconnected the wastegate line going down by the turbo and maybe plugged it. Does that increase boost/power? Does it hurt anything to do it? It almost appears it had broke off down there but its possible there is a plug? I did'nt want to fool with it and look closer. Thanks, Sonny

Plugging the line with a .22 cal shell is a common way to increase boost.
Not a problem unless you are seeing boost in excess of around 36 psi.
Increasing boost in itself doesn't increase power, you have to add more fuel also.
