Voltage Regulator

There are even more compact Nippon Denso voltage regulators that can be had at some rebuild shops. Bolts right onto the alternator with a couple wires hangin off of it. Simple, saw it, never done it however..

Thanks Haulin!!
I installed the external VR this afternoon and thank God, I am getting charge now. It is going up and hovering around 14 volt now though. Is this a bit too high??? My alternator is getting quite warm also, but that could be because of the hi draw from the mostly dead batteries

took some temp readings on the alt today. The hottest is got was about 120 deg after running on the road for about 15 minutes. The negine was all the way up to temp so I think this might have been a pretty good reading. My wifes Durango when she pulled in the drive from work was about 145!!

Do a search on crank sensor. I think that is where the problem is.
I am not an expert on 12 valve but that is what I have absorbed from the board. There are several experts on here that can help.

both otherwise the truck is in perfect working order.(tach is fine, alt is new, lights dont flicker)
could that still be the crank sensor?
It was just off a while ago and gapped properly when re-installed.
no change.
