using tcc lockup switch when towing

using tcc lockup switch from a stop w/load
i put a tcc lockup switch in just to have it. i read here using it can give quicker o-60 times, which i doesen't really matter for me, but if i used it taking off when pulling my 9500 lb fifth wheel camper what might be the advantages/disadvantages. i've got a billet tc. supposed to have a wider kevlar clutch band.
thanks,
john

I don't use my T/C lock switch when taking off, simply because I don't want to risk having the T/C slip. Once I'm moving and I feel it shift into 3rd and the RPM's get to about 2200, then I flip the switch. After that, if I can keep the RPM's above about 1700 I'll tow in OD with the T/C locked. Need to watch EGT's, they can climb pretty fast, especially if you're going up hill.

I wouldn't use it on take off.
Why torture that high-dollar T/C ?
I let the trans lock when it wants on my truck, I use it to slow down more than anything else.
BUT, I bought my truck used and don't know exactly what converter it has in it.

I have a commander lockup controller and I use it while towing, it is adjustable and locks up, depending on load level, at about 2,000 RPM I am usually towing 5,000-8,000 loads.
If you just have a "switch", I would lock up the TC after the RPM gets to 1,500 or above. Remember the 12 Valve engine has max toque at 1,500 RPM so it is OK to lockup at that point.
The advantage is less heat from slip in the TC. BUT if you have the stock transmission, you are going to place more load on the trans. and will probably shorten the life a bit. You will be extending the trans life with lower fluid temp's so it all depends on how hard you drive it.
