Uh OH!! What happened???

Ok, i just bought the truck a week ago (not even) and so far it starts GREAT, till today!! I went out, tried to start it this morning, it just cranked about 10 seconds. so I stopped, turned key off, back on, wait for the WTS light to shut off, try again, and give the go pedal a push this time, well it sputters, no start though, so shut off again, and try again with the foot to floor, now it started peeing diesel out of the top of the fuel filter, what the heck??? I tried a little more, the engine started and the leaking slowed to a stop in a couple of seconds when the engine cleared up, so what gives??? I am starting to get worried now! My nice new truck is acting up already, anybody else have anything like this happen?

Dont know year your talkin about but I would start by checkin the fuel filter to make sure its tight or that the gasket hasent gone bad. If it is, I would see air entering the system making it hard to start also.

Ok Travis, quit being nervous, just went out there and fixed, all is well now, it was just a loose fuel filter issue!!

Ryan,

I would be asking "How did it get loose?" Yes these things rattle and vibrate but not that much... or at least I hope not...

Did you just change the filter when you brought her home? or did the PO just not get it tight enough?

I didnt touch the filter, but it wasnt leaking yesterday when i checked all the other fluids, so i dont really have a clue why it was loose. I got probally 3/4 of a turn out of it by hand.

Maybe the previous fuel filter installer didn't believe in over tightening the filter and just got a little too limp wrist in the process.

Ive over tightened a fuel filter on my truck once and pinched the gasket out. Peed everywere. Put a new one in and just snugged her up.
