Truck revs easily in park, but in drive, not so much.

Truck revs easily in park, but in drive, not so much.

Working of a friends 95 CTD 4x4 auto. Plate partially foward, star wheel all the way. GSK is unknown. No aftermarket gauges. Truck is a salvage. Rest is stock. just sitting idling, I can rev it up to redline easily, but when I go down the road, and mash on it, it almost bogs down and wont rev very easily. Seem low on power or is that just the lower HP IP in the 95 auto.

I know I didnt provide a lot of info, but if any one has any pointers, where to start please point.

Fuel problem,ie lack of fuel?
Transmission/torque converter?
????

That combo would be low on power so its hard to say if there is a problem with the system or if that's all it has.
I would start by checking the basic stuff like the FF/preheater, FP from the lift pump and boost to see if there was a obvious problem.
Does it have a cat on it? It could be plugged?

It also feels like the travel in the go pedal is short. When I mash on it, it is almost like it hits some thing solid, it wont make it to the floor.
I've changed fuel filter and Prefilter. No change.
I'll try to turn the star wheel down.
I'll also look at fuel shut off. It has been replaced recently. Dont know if lack of power happened before or after that.

Check the wastegate to make sure it isn't stuck open.

And I would have somebody put the pedal to the floor while you check to make sure you are getting full travel at the pump.

Good luck
