Truck Doesn't Want To Stay Running

As some of you may know I had just my engine replaced. I haven't gotten in and done any tinkering to it or the fuel pump yet. I have been driving it around for more than a month without any issues. Now that the stage is set...

Last night on my way home I dropped out of 4th gear as I pulled into a turn lane. As the trucks RPMs dropped, they went all the way to 0 and the truck was dead! Steering this monster with now power is not fun. After a bit of worry, I thought try to start it again. It started right back up, I got through the turn and was motoring down the road again. But, as soon as I came to the next turn/stop and I went out of gear so she could idle, it died again. I had to do this several more times until I mastered keeping my foot lightly on the throttle and down-gearing instead braking....

I haven't seen any white smoke, just the good black stuff...

I would greatly appreciate any input possible on this.

Where is it idling at RPM wise? Could just be too low.

When I can get it to "idle" it "bounces". It drops to about 600 RPM and then bounces up to 1000 RPM and then drops back to 600 and up to 1000....

I took the truck to the shop that put in my new engine. He wasn't able to look at it today, but believes based upon it "surging" that it was a problem in the fuel pump.

Do you have any modifications on the pump? GSK or injectors?

Well, I got the truck back from the shop that replaced the engine. I knew I wasn't going to be happy when I dropped it off. They said they would "hook it up and see what codes it was throwing". Well I got a call a few hours later saying it isn't throwing any codes and that after talking to their pump shop people they think it is just a stuck valve and that I need to run a bottle of Stanadyne through it.

I'm willing to give it a shot, but should I seriously expect this to be the case?

I had one do the same thing. A plunger in the pump was sticking. Did you hear a ticking like a stuck lifter? A lubricant in the fuel took care of the problem.

No ticking...

Well, I guess there is some hope for the Stanadyne solution... Thanks...

Stanadyne is good stuff. Probably gonna take a good tankful before it does its thing.. At least they didn't suggest ATF!!!

Mine is doing this after the 3GSK kit. Possibly the Lift pump going out at the same time. Mine gets better after it gets up to operating temp.
But cold it has the bounce.

Common with a GSK. Tighten your springs a click.
