Truck Dies when I let off the throttle
Truck starts normally.
Get it up to high way speed and it will surge a little. Let off the gas and the truck dies. It is then hard to start, I need to pump the throttle and then feather it when the truck starts.
I will try the fuel filter first. Any other ideas.

knowing the pressure would be nice. as 94 dk said when was the last filter change? has the fuel pre-screen ever been cleaned? : http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/filter/pre-filt_clean.htm After that its the fuel pressure blow off valve next, sounds like weak pressure.

Everything you need to know about the fuel system http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/94...m-writeup.html

I am leaning towards a fuel supply issue. I had made a previous thread on the injection pump acting up but I believe it was just missing throttle return springs. I will replace the fuel filter and clean the pre-strainer. I will look into lift pump replacement as I had noticed a leak from that area earlier.

I have changed the fuel filter and cleaned the pre-filter. No change.
I did a little more test driving. The will run fine and the start running rough. It is down on power when running rough. I have also noticed that for example I will be driving @ 25 mph. The truck will be stumbling. I will remove my foot from the pedal and the truck will hold its speed and rpm for a couple seconds and then die. It will do the sticking throttle and the die thing at any speed. The truck is then hard to start after. I have to pump the throttle. I will check the fuel pressure next to rule out the easy stuff but I really think I am looking at a governor issue. Ideas??

To elimate a governor issue, you could remove the fuel plate and test the truck...Hope you don't have a pump problem like I did...seems to be a trend on the first gen p pumps...

Any advice on how to remove the fuel plate. What exactly will I be troubleshooting by removing the fuel plate?

Your fuel plate is under the AFC...The governor rides along this plate...RPM surge sometimes happens if the adjustment is out...Governor arm going under the plate would cause this...

I hate to write this, but you have the symptoms of a sticking plunger in the injection pump.
When a plunger sticks it locks the rack so your engine rpm will hold plus usually run very rough
A hard restart is another symptom. The sticking plunger will hold the rack at no fuel.
Not a cheap fix
