transmission temp probe location
hi i'm new to this website but not to my diesel. i have just received my guages and i am looking for the best and easiest place to locate the transmission probe. i have been reading different website to no avail. some say there is a spot already there in the output line??? I don't know. is it in the transmission near the output? or am i getting bad info. any help will be greatly appreciated. i am doing this myself with some general knowledge so any answers that don't take a degree are even more appreciated

Welcome to the site KOKO: You are getting sort of good info about the temp sensor. My 95 has a temp sensor in the out line to the cooler. Some guys are buying this line to allow them an empty port to place a new sender, but its over $100, I think! I've heard some guys say that they cut the line and insert a compression "T" fitting. The least expensive route is to remove one of the pressure plugs on the side of the trans and screw in a sender, but I'm not sure which is the best to change, maybe someone else can help there.

The $100 output line with a port for a '95 is the best way. A tee in your existing line will work but introduces a potential leak source.
The test port on the side of the tranny method only works on the RH trannies used from '94-'96.

KOKO, I've got the same truck and I put mine in a little 1/8" pipe port on the RH side of the tranny about half-way up. That spot gets decent readings. Running empty it reads 150 deg or a little less. Towing the big house around, I don't let it get over 180 deg.
You can also take your pan off and weld in a bushing with with whatever size plug you want. I went with 1/8" pipe bushing to match the gauge. It makes for easy no mess draining, but the temp readings are less accurate down there.

wazz_zup, the test port on your RH won't give good readings in Reverse and 1st. That's where many folks with trailers see the highest readings since there isn't as much air flow though the cooler.
Also on a RH if your probe is too long it can damage the tranny.
