Transmission question
I drive a 92 w250 4x4 with a cummins. I was at Oreilly's just checking on the transmissions (I'm a little worried about mine). Anyway, apparently I have a A518 transmission and the one ton has a A727 transmission. The A518 is $2200.00 and the A727 is $1100.00. So if I read all that right, then the heavier duty transmission is the A727 and will fit my w250? And it's cheaper? Does anyone know the story behind this? Or am I wrong? Oh, and just for hell of it it can someone tell me what type of axles I have front and rear. Supposedly they're 4500lb? Dana 60, dana 44, spicer 70, I don't know what any of that means. Thanks.

Your A518 is a 4 speed auto, the A727 is just a 3 speed and was installed on the older trucks. Technically, the A727 would fit in your truck, with a bunch of modifications, but you would lose a gear so your top speed would drop a lot. It's not a worthwhile thing to consider.
Your front axle is a Dana 60, and is rated at 4500 lbs. Your rear axle is a Dana 70, and should be rated somewhere around 6000 lbs. That info should be on your door sticker.
