transmission morning sickness
So i was having some erratic shifting from 4th to 3rd .. only when it was cold. after about 10 miles it was fine. I thought it was the tps. so i took it out and apart and cleaned it. No luck... so i bought a new one from napa. its still the same, i had heard on someone on here talking about morning sickness in these transmissions, where the fluid drains out of the TC at night??? whats the fix for this?

I'm not an auto transmission guy, so I don't know exactly which seals would be letting the fluid leak out, but that sounds like exactly what is happening.
When you change the fluid, some of the gunk that was keeping the seals from leaking gets dissolved into the new fluid, and the seals start to leak.
I had an old Dodge Caravan that did the exact same thing.

Here is my take on it.
Is the converter just unlocking and re-locking, that make you think it is shifting to third? If so it could be just electrical noise.
morning sickness is only on start-up after sitting a day or more ( sometimes just overnight).
This is when the pump bushing gets some wear on it and just lets 1/2 of the converter fluid drain to the pan. Other things can cause it but this is the most likely. Don't worry about morning sickness- it will go many miles/years - like this. ( it isn't going go give birth or anything like it)!!!!!!!!

There is a temp sensor on many of the 12v , in one of the coolant lines , it does not allow 4th or OD until the fluid reaches 40*F , so it may just be normal , some , like my self put a 1,000 ohm resistor at the temp sensor pigtail [ leaving the sensor disconnected ] but with the weakness of a stock trans , this could be an issue .

hi
transgo tfod-desiel kit will cure your morning sickness !
fluid does not cirkalate in a std vb trans ,
the transgo kit has a replacement valve that allowes fluid to flow in park , then you can idel fer hours on end in park <safely>without having to wory about front seal and bushing going south !
pluss now you can check your fluid in park or netrual !
use atf+4 always
pluss a firmer shifting longer lasting trany !
do it !
