Transfer Case Problems

Transfer Case Problems
I have a 96 3/4 ton 5sp with 170,000 miles. It is a work truck so gets used alot. I need to know where is the best place to get a transfer case. By best I mean, the best for the money. This will be the third transfer case to be put in. I have checked into the atlas, but would prefer a bolt in replacement. What are all the high horsepower or truck pullers using? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What is causing them to go out? The 241 is a pretty stout piece. Are you having the existing case rebuilt, or are you completely replacing it?
That is just odd to have one fail under normal use, especially that often and soon.
ON EDIT:Welcome to DTR, sorry I'm not more help I do try

Some folks are swapping in a NP 271 from the 3rd gen Rams, they are HUGE and barely squeeze into place, but they fit. You could do a search and see what all is required for swapping one in, it should be pretty simple.
I agree with displacedtexan, that is really abnormal to wear out an NP241, especially 3 of them!
Do you know what component is failing on them?

Thanks for the replies. The first one was a bearing failure and dodge replaced it. The current (which was a rebuild when dodge put it in) is completly worn out. The front output shaft wobbles. Four wheel drive does not work, makes a bad grinding noise. It has felt like it has had alot of slack in the driveline for about a year. Which I have have always assumed was the transfer. Does anybody know where is the best place to buy another one? or have this one rebuilt? Any help appreciated.

I use quad4x4 for rebuild kits. I think the 241 is easy to rebuild. I'm about to do it on the other truck. do you have the light duty or the heavy duty? the 241dhd is rated for something liek 1400foot punds of tourq continious input. the 271 is quite a bit more and the 241LD is a bit less like 1000. our's are DHD's and the one im going to rebuild is in perfect shape after almost 400k miles but the seal between the 2halfs is now leaking so while im in there.
Alot of the guys with high power and even the sled pullers still use a 241dhd.
