Transfer Case;rebuild, replace, or new???

What is my best option? My transfer case has been making some weird noises so I removed it for inspection. The magnet had enough gunk around it to look like a graphite globbed sock. Definite wear on the chain gears, chain, and a little sloppy at the bearings. The bearing surface on the front output shaft is, "Shafted", so that is probably a bad deal. It looks like the cheapest way is to replace the transfer case, but where is the best source of another one? I really don't want to do this again very soon.
Thanks, Bill

95 3500 4x4 195,000 miles NP 241 DHD stock

Bill,

Do a search on the web for Transmission Exchange. You can get a completely rebuilt transfer case for not much, or the parts kit and do it yourself for even less.

What you found is common on a case with over 100,000 miles if it has been using dyno oil. Use synthetic after you break in the new one and it will last about twice as long.

Be sure to check the output side bearing on the transmission so you know it is in good shape, or you will knock out the transfer case input side again if it is sloppy.
