Trans issues...
Well the time has come to confront this beast. I've owned my '94 2500 CTD for three months now. Since I bought it the trans has been acting progressively worse. Just little stuff but I know that it gets expensive alot quicker if the trans actually pukes, so I had better fix this before it gets really bad. I would kind of like to get this fixed at a shop because there is still one of the aftermarket warranties on it, but I have had trouble getting any of the shops to diagnose the problem since it is so infrequent.
Anyway heres what it has been doing. When I first bought the truck the cruise would only randomly work (it's still like this). Then after about a month of running the truck it started dumping in and out of lockup when cruising about 65-70. It did that on and off for about 2 weeks and hasn't done it since. Then tonight the cruise decided to work for me - for about a mile. Then it just DROPPED out of cruise, it felt like somebody just shut the truck down. So after talking with a few guys from my car club that know diesels pretty well they're thinking that the trans is on its way out. I am on a very tight budget with this thing but I need to get this fixed before I have to pay for an OD unit rebuild. The question is what should I do to start getting to the root cause of these problems and in what order? TV cable, TPS, all out trans rebuild, etc?

I prolly sound stupid asking all this but I'm not gonna learn this truck unless I ask. Where is the TPS and how do I check it? How do I know if it needs replaced? Wheres the best place to get one if it needs replaced?

possible, but very rare for TPS to affect cruise, check your brake light control switch under dash behind the pedal linkage and move it forward. i will bet your cruise quits mostly on slight bumps or jerks. and for this reason when the brake switch closes the tc unlocks because it thinks you are stopping. try placing your foot under the brake pedal when it acts up again and pull up on the brake pedal and i bet your problem with stop. now the converter kicking in and out when not in cruise can be many things but the 3 most common are TPS, alternator field wires bleeding RFI voltage into TPS signal wire, and trans temp sensor defective. PM me if you have any testing ?'s or other trans ?'s and i will help you out.
