Tranny temp gauge

I had a tranny temp gauge in a splice in my cooler line before I upgraded my tranny and cooler lines to the steel 2000 model style steel lines

I would like to install my gauge again but dont want to cut up my $350 new cooler lines to put a sender in for the gauge...the only port is used by the temp sensor now...I dont think it would be good to tee off at the sensor port because that would take both gauge and tranny sensor out of the fluid stream

Anyone have any ideal where I can put the gauge sender (into the pan is not an option) to read the hot fluid flow

.

Re:Tranny temp gauge

You could put a tee in the trans on the inward flow line from the cooler, which would tell you what the temp is after the cooler and the sensor would be less prone to damage being tucked tight to the trans.

Re:Tranny temp gauge

Pappy

I am not sure if the fluid in the pan is hot or already gone through the cooler. But putting a fitting in the pan is a snap. I have put drains in both my 95's. Pretty easy to do. But, if it has already gone through the cooler then your right, it deafeats the purpose.
Gary

Re:Tranny temp gauge

Mymaur thanks but as I said puttin it in the pan wasnt an option...its not a true temp...and since I haul heavy at times in the mountains on grades that seem to go straight up I need a place that tells me how hot my trannys gettin and as far as I know the exit cooler line has the hottest fluid...but since I put these D#@m high $$$ cooler lines on I hate to butcher them so soon to put in a gauge sender and was looking for a option that would work better then cuttin into the line ???

Re:Tranny temp gauge

I'm interested in your prior setup. I've installed three guages but have not hooked up the Trans Temp Sender. How was your Tee setup & what line did you use.

Thanks

Re:Tranny temp gauge

I'm no expert, but from my understanding the fluid leaves the pan, goes through the tranny valve body, clutches, etc, and the torque converter last, where the heat is created, therefore wouldn't the pan temp be the "operating temp"?
Re:Tranny temp gauge

I just saw a thread on another forum where someone said to use a 700 Ohm resistor (as opposed to a 7K or 7000 Ohm) to bypass the temp sensor to check if it's faulty. Sorry, I can't find which one you're supposed to use. Maybe someone else here knows. One thing for sure if you bypass it, you'll disable the automatic 4-3 shift function when trans temp gets too high. Good luck.
