tranny mystery
Bit of a long story, but here goes.
I bought this 1994 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel (auto trans) that the previous owner had basically abandoned and left sitting in his yard for two years. So I bought it without starting or driving it. Well, I got it home and got it started, but when I took it out on the highway it got to about 50 mph and 2200 rpm and kind of hit a wall. At first I just thought it wouldn't go into overdrive, but now I'm wondering if this truck has the wrong transmission (the previous owner said he replaced the transmission).
I think the stock transmission for this truck was supposed to have a three-wire connector for overdrive and tc lockup (correct me if I'm wrong). But the only wiring connector I can find that connects to the tranny case has only two wires, not three. It's on the left side of the transmission. And I can't see how it comes off, seems to be screwed in.
I guess first of all, how do I identify this transmission?

Where are you located, I'm sure someone would run by and takle a look. You should ahve a three wire connector, on the driver side, up on a flat area just behind the gear selector shaft.

Is it a 618 (overdrive) tranny?
You should have a three wire neutral safety switch.
There should be a parts number on left side at pan. Dealer or tranny shop should be able to identify. Is there a tranny temp sensor in cooler lines?? I also think it should be a three wire connector behind neutral safety switch. Don't have anything to compare to or a FSM to check. An owner is needed to respond.

My cell number is (917) 690-1905 and my name is Mike.
I may drive this truck over to Lake Placid, New York tonight. My car is out of commission and this truck is the only way I can get to the job I'm working on over there, even if I have to do 45 the whole way.
So if anybody between Brandon, Vermont and Lake Placid, New York wants to take a look, I can stop by on the way.
