Tranny Leak Reality Check ...

I had my tranny rebuilt about 4 years ago. Have had no problems with it since - until now.

I'm getting an ATF drip from the front passenger side of the tranny pan lip. I tightened the pan bolts which seemed to be loose. I thought that had taken care of the problem. Now, it seems that the leak does not show again until the truck has sat for at least a full day. This hints at the torque converter needing to drain before it begins to leak. It is ATF, not coolant that is leaking.

After doing a search here, the dipstick tube leak seems to be the most likely candidate for a cause. Any other possibilities?

Because of my old arthritic joints, I'm trying to minimize my time crawling around underneath looking for the source. Any advice that cuts under truck time will be appreciated.

As you've already noted, the diptick tube leaking looks an awful lot like the pan leaking, however when I was chasing mine in the dipstick tube , it always looked like the passenger side or mid pan was the culprit. Could've been the way it was parked. Replacing the o-ring (or upgrading to the newer tube and tapered seal) doesn't take long at all

And if that doesn't work, try one of the 1 piece Mopar pan gaskets.

It was hard swallowing the price, but it fixed my pan leak.

This is what I put on mine when I was chasing the dipstick leak in my 95
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mopar...Q5fAccessories

Also got a filter and gasket from this guy. The 727 deep pan fits the 47RH/RE and holds a little extra fluid, plus it has the drainplug. Drainplug was very helpful when draining and chasing before I found the dipstick tube leaking. When I got my 96 and changed the tranny fluid for the first time I also put this pan on. Just for the drain plug

Hi guys,
Thx for your input. I still haven't gone under to fix this yet.
But, It hasn't leaked for at least 2 days now.
Makes me think that it might have been over filled with ATF.
Except that I had checked it and it was down almost 1/2 qt.
It's looking like it may be an intermittent problem.
I'm baffled.
I'll keep my eye on it to see what happens.

I had a weird issue like that too, new gasket, new dipstick o-ring, dispstick tube, hell I even got a new pan thinking mine could have gotten damaged, still leaking.

Turned out it was the servo seal.
