TPS Grounding

I believe I saw a posting on here a few months ago about improved grounding on the TPS. Seems like it involved exposing metal around one of the mounting holes. Can anyone clarify.
I want to do this, plus separate the cables in the harnass and see if I can eliminate those pesky TPS issues (transmission hunting/surging, and the intermittent O/D dropouts).

Have you tried to clean it with contact cleaner? The reason I ask is this:

At first I sprayed the TPS with contact cleaner, it helped marginally. Then I separated the wires, some improvement. Then I took the TPS off and really floooded it with contact cleaner at the shaft while moving the shaft back and forth. So much so that I could hear fluid sloshing around inside when I shook it in my hand. Let it dry, then reinstalled. Followed instructions found on dodgeram.org for tps voltage checks before and after cleaning to make sure.

That was the most drastic improvement. Having it in my hand and really dousing it, sloshing it around, and blowing compressed air. Might want to consider another method where the back of the tps is removed to expose the contacts inside. The back of the tps can be removed by cutting into the plastic. There is a "D" shaped seam from when the factory bonded it together. If you cut into it, scrape into it, whatever, (only go as deep as needed-be careful), but follow the line or indentation in the back.

After the back is removed, clean the heck out of with contact cleaner, then make a note of an area where a small hole can be drilled to allow access for future cleaning. Glue it back together and use a little piece of putty to plug the hole. The next time you have to clean it will be alot easier becouse of the little access hole.

Someone posted a few pics of the tps and what it looked like being apart. Someone else gave the location for proper placement of the little hole, but I can't remember where.

Since I cleaned mine about 4 months ago, no problems, but if it starts up again, I'll do the above, and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I do.

The second link has a few links that will connect you to some pics of the TPS with the back removed.. Hope this helps ya out, Kevin

Its almost impossible to get contact cleaner pass the TPS shaft seal.....I was bored one day and opened up a spare TPS after spraying it with cleaner after gettin it open I found no cleaner had gotten pass the seal

I found by drilling a small hole in the TPS you can then spray contact clean inside and reseal the hole with silicone.....if it acts up again its a simple matter to remove the silicone and respray it

Heres the tread about opening up the TPS or just drilling a hole in it

Pappymans way is the only way,I can attest to that, His repair with taking the wires out or rewiring and then reseting the volts and 99.9% of the problems will go away. Goodluck,,,Rick

Well I guess that is the thread I made reference to. I'm glad you posted it!

Is that the hole I see on the back of the TPS in the second pic? It looks like a hole just below the white 4 digit numbers. Sorry the pic is kind of blurry and if you are referencing to some other location than please clarify.

Also when you say ".283 from the bottom lip" do you mean the very bottom of the TPS or from the bottom edge of the part you cut out and then reglued? I also assume it is exactly centered from left to right?

Sorry, I just want to be sure of location before I drill , thanks, Kevin
