TPS isn't in the transmission, unless you mead the governor pressure transducer. In that case, replace both the transducer and the solenoid at the same time, I always found that the other one died shortly after, and you had to pull the pan yet again.

I think I have it down to under 2 hours dinking around by myself, a real mechanic could slam it out much faster.

If you meant the TPS, then it is 2 bolts at the throttle bracket and unplug and plug a connector, harder to get to it than it is to change.

Well the guy at the transmission shop told me the tps was bad. I don't really know exactly what that is but I figured it was in the transmission. My transmission won't shift until I get about 5 miles down the road. Then it will shift to second but if I slow down to a stop it feels like it will stay in first and not shift to second again.

Grrrrrrrrrr.......... I am not a trans guy, but that certainly does NOT sound right. The 47RE is basically a fancy 727, and the computer does not control anything of the 1-2-3 shift other than if the Governor pressure circuit being haywire could alter the shift points.

I will set back and hopefully some of our auto trans savvy guys will chime in.

TPS is Throttle Position Sensor located on the throttle linkage at the pump. Not hard to replace at all. Do a search on this site for it and you will find a ton of info, even how to do away with it. Do not let the transmission guy replace. It will cost you WAY more than it is worth.

Replacing the TPS is a 15 minutes max job, hope he doesn't try taking advantage.

Well they have been working on it for about 10 hours. I guess they figured out that it was not the tps.

He replaced the tps and that didn't fix it, so now he is gonna rebuild the governer pressure solenoid. He pulled the pan and there was a bunch of stuff in there as well.

How does it feel to let someone spend $400 (dealer wanted that much for mine) of your money guessing what's wrong?

My TPS was bad in my truck and since in the 518 tranny it only controls 4th gear, I replaced it with $9.00 worth of radio shack generic parts and it's been flawless since.

What Radio shack parts were those? Could you elaborate?
