On my '94, I installed a push-pull switch in the blank space beside the OD switch. Total cost...$2.95. Works great.

I also put a light under my dash, but soon to be a little LED right by switch{BY the overdrive button} I have it hooked up by having power to the light all the time, when tranny locks up it grounds the light, and light comes on! If I switch the lockup switch on,- the light stays on until I shut off, Unless the torque convertor is still locked up, Either way I know, IF THE LIGHTS ON, I AM LOCKED UP!!! and If I am coming to a stop sign, and my lights still on, I know my switch is still on!!!

Some people have had problems with this method because + power feeds though the light bulb when it's on. Best to use a relay to isolate the bulb.

unless your switch uses and LED, which is polarirty sensative, when using a regular miniature lamp type switch, you can reverse polarity on the switch terminals and get the job done. i.e. hook the TC to acc term, ground the power terminal, and positive the ground terminal. A light bulb is not polarity sensitive, so instead of the switch passing positive, it would pass negative, and utilize a constant power source to illuminate the bulb, whereas usually it uses a constant ground.

how would u guys hook up a switch that allows me to POSTPONE lockup till my tranny and rpms catch up a bit more ...right now im using the overdrive button i'll start out with all four gears (so overdrive NOT locked out) and then i'll wait alil longer in 3rd gear and hit the button (overdrive locks out) and my TC clutch engages nice and easy and there's almost no rpm drop whatsoever...the trucks an everyday driver for me ..i dont have money for tranny mods yet

The dealer can flash the pcm to engage lockup at a higher mph if you want.
Most engage at 45 - 50 mph.

Just lockout the O/D with the switch. Re-engage it at 50 or so. That is all I do. No biggie.

me too, have the TC controller set to lock-out OD on start up......getting tired of reaching for the dash all the time though......OD or not to OD, with my tires and gear ratio, the right rpm to to run in OD is about 55-60 mph, and in laggy traffic, this is a PITA. Thinking about installing a Hobbs switch in the gov test port. Here I can adjust the switch to close at a gov pressure to send a circuit to the OD solenoid. Gov pressure is related to speed....viola! Then I will also have the lock-out switch still operational to manually lock it out.

yep bmoeller thats what i was saying ...i do that too..but u cant wait too long cause it will pop into overdrive too just i gotta find the right moment to hit that o/d button and lockup occurs with almost no rpm drop..with the switch from what i understand, everything is normal..lockup occurs normally unless i hit the lockup switch and then u can make it lock sooner....i just wanna delay it so it can lockup when i think the tranny and rpms are caught up to each other reduce clutch wear ...

You should only feel the #3 shift and t/c lockup clutch enegagement, with the O/D switch off. Won't go into O/D, unless you turn the switch on. It feels like a shift, but it isn't actually doing that.

i think u misunderstood...right now i use the overdrive switch carefully to kinda shift around my THIRD gear lockup know what i mean? i'll drive with all 4 gears on and lock the 4th gear out when 3rd gear feels right and i get 3rd gear lockup...but when i do that sometimes u cant wait too long before hitting the overdrive button cause i'll actually get overdrive and "miss" the boat sortaspeak....so i kinda want a switch that TOTALLY under my control and it simply wont lockup unless i hit it....i think the TST one will lock up normally when the switch isnt on but hittign the switch will make it lock sooner ...i want later to preserve the tranny

so instead of sistering on to the wire at the PCM plug, just cut it in two...run both ends to a switch. get a two position switch (3 terminals) hook the TC end to the middle, the PCM to one end terminal, and a ground to the other end terminal. In center position, no signal can get to the TC. In one end position, you will be supplying the ground signal to lock the TC manually...when you want. In the other end position, the PCM will control the TC as normal.
