Torque Converter color identifies manufacturer?

Hi all,
I recently purchased a 98 12V. I was told by the previous owner the tranny is "beefed up". The tranny holds up well to the additional HP and Torque. The drivers side of the tranny just above the pan has some custom stamped ID numbers. I also removed the inspection cover and the torque converter is light gray. Does this signify ATS, DTT or someone I can pinpoint who may have modded this? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg

he prolly doesn't know

mine is 'beefed up' and I couldn't tell you what TC it has, a shop did the work.
I told them to put the biggest baddest one they could find in there, told me it had some special 'brazed fins'?? and it would hold up to a tractor pull competition. Also put in a stainless clutch basket? and some fancy VB

hell if I know whats in there, it shifts like crap, engages hard, and when I mash the throttle it revs to the moon and defuels. When I try to climb a hill with a heavy load I push the throttle past half and it down shifts, revs to the moon and defuels again and my speed plummets down to gasser territory.

sucks!

hi
wow that do suck

i would be back there demanding aa Low stall vertor !

your other option would be a gsk and a diff fuel plate prob to take advantage of the upper rpm range ?

me thinks tractor pullers use the higher rpms ?

does your converter have a billit face, or are there square nuts welded to the face? The billit one will have the nuts machined into the front. What kind of milage have you been getting w/ your lift and 37's? ATS has a picture of their converter on their website for reference, since you looked at yours.

if it's oem style and not aftermarket, it sounds like a CVC converter to me.
(consolidated vehicle converters)

other than that, i dunno.

Mileage is around 16-17 highway. Best estimate. Speedo is off 15mph. The lift and strain of the larger tires took out my steering box. Massive side play. Went with PSC steering gear and the steering stabilizer. I will be good for the life of the truck now.

greasy, there is a small spring inside your valve body that adjusts the shift point and different springs usually come with VB kits. Mine did and the guy that did my tranny wanted to put a stronger spring in to raise the shift point but i told him not to because i make alot more power down low. Once i install my gsk and valve springs to spin 4k i MIGHT raise the shift point but i doubt it. Get a stock spring and see if that works. Maybe a $3 part but its worth a shot.

The PO said it had a triple disk TQ in it. I wonder if it could be a HTS? It looks like their TQ is a grey color from this pic although it's a shotty pic.

BTW, HelenaTDI is my BIL.

Called on the following TC's manufacturers.
ATS colored purple.
DTT colored black (previous older versions I'm told was blue).
HTS colored light grey.
Dunrite colored black.

Thanks for the info. 99% sure it has the HTS.

Suncoast is greyish too. I think it should have numbers stamped on the front cover. Spin it and see.

I'm pretty sure Dusty at HTS uses them.
