You need to give more info to get your answer , all the details of your truck , to start there is a difference between auto's & manual trans.
Not sure but about
Man. 175-185 HP
Auto. 160 HP
Also check the tech section DTR .

Also here .

I have a 97 2500 with a auto completly stock only future upgrades planned are cold air intake and 4 inch exhaust. I am currantly rebuilding my trans with red eagle upgraded frictions and steels and transgo shift kit, the billet converter I am thinking of using is rated at 800ft/lbs of torque. Wondering if that is enough considering my truck will remain mostly stock other then upgrades listed above

Typically , its common that diesel TQ is about double HPs , so if your looking at 800 TQ or looking at 400 HP , that a moderate upgrade , the high end of what I was looking at .
The next thing is what are you going to do with those numbers ?
I am not familiar with that brand name , but billet is something you want , then single or triple disk .
For a recommendation for built trans. , parts or info , nobody seems to get higher praises than Dave at ,

If you are building vs. sending out , a while back there were videos at his web site showing some things to do .
