Tools for Fifth Gear Nut Repair?
Well it finally happened today, only 66,000 miles and in the 40,000 I've owned it I never lugged 5th but the nut came off anyway . I know there are better fixes but I have two vehicles with trannies that broke in the last 5 days so money and time are both tight. I want to just do the updated nut and washer kit from the dealer but I need to know if there are any special tools I will NEED to do the job. I'm a tech at an Acura dealer and have been a tech for ten years so I have all the general tools but none of the special tools the TSB shows. I know I won't need all of them but a list of which ones I'll need and where to get them would be terriffic.

I understand your $$ position but do some research about the fix. My 95 lost it after 20K with the nut kit. I had it done again by a shop and they did more than just the stock nut kit per say he told me. Mass locktite, welded the nut I dont know. The full shaft is the way but it costs some $$. Look at it this way, if it craps out again just throw some 38`s on it and use granny to start and 4th for od. Next time mine goes the truck goes to,Ive had enough. Crazy how things work, my neighbor uses his 95, gvw`ed at 17,000K with th trailer and 200Kmiles and heaivly bombed and never had a problem.

I know too i had the same problem but i just did the nut. See mine blew the threads clean out of the nut there wasn't nothing left. So i just did it on a budget too. I just now about 5 minutes ago did some fabing on my fuel sending unit and now it works for the first time in about a year wooohooo

Only two tools that I used...............checkbook and ink pen
But, I didnt have much of a choice. Work demands a lot of time, and I had to have the truck. Wouldve been nice if I had something else to drive while I messed with it.
