Tool sources?

Tool sources?
Hi all,
Okay, I tried this question on another list and really did no get the answer I was looking for. One fellow even suggest that I did not need this too, that I could crank on the alternator or pull on the belt to turn the engine over. NOT>>>!
Dumb enough that I tried it. No way!
So, what sources are out their to buy a "barring tool", so I can turn the engine over for things like valve lash adjustments, etc.? Bumping the starter, just don't get it either.
Also, the Top Dead Center locator pin is of course in a nasty place to reach on my `98 12v. Should I apply some WD40 to it to make it easier to push and pull or not. My hands are just too fat, clumsy, big or any combination of the get a good grip on that little rascal :-[

I am in the Baltimore area, if that helps
Thanks! Any solid help would be appreciated!!

Bought mine at NAPA for about $40 or so if I remember right. If you can't find one, PM me you mailing address and I'll send you mine if you pay postage and ship it back if you just need it for one use. If you can't find one and want one for your collection, let me know and I will pick one up and send it to you. You need about a bajillion foot extension with a swivel too.
That pin on my 89 and my 95 was tough to get to. Make sure without a doubt that if you push it in, you pull it out to the stop or it will sheer off inside.

I have an automatic. Tried the Alt. pulley deal and it just slips the belt. I can try it again sometime. Do Da*& cold to mess with that now. I don't know of too many NAPA stores around here. But, I think I will find them quicker than Cummins. The only Cummins place I know of is at least 1/2 hr from home and I have to work for a living. So, going corss town for now is not likely. I will likely get the barring tool anyway to prevent stretching to the old belt, anyway.
Thanks big time for the assistance.
See ya!
I believe if you turn it the direction the engine runs, the belt will slip. But, the other way and it wont. It has to do with the direction of tension that is on the belt tensioner.

Re:Tool sources?
I use the alternator pully method on my automatic. just put in nuetral. I have to apply some slight pressure to the belt over the pully to keep it from slipping. Otherwise it works great. Now if I could only get the darn pin to engage.

P. Stevens:

Just talked to Mike at Cummins Atlantic in Richmond Virginia. He can get you one for $28.84 and if you give him a credit card number, he will ship it right to your house. Part number is 3824591 and the phone number is 804-233-7628.

Joel

Hi Joel,
Thanks a bunch! let me get through the holidays, as it is digging deep into my pockets. :'( Then I will likely order it.
Sure enough, I only turned the nut one way.
But, right now with snow on my driveway, temps in the teens and 20's. Well, it will keep for a bit.
Everyone has been a great help. Thanks! 8)
Yesterday, I did not want to risk someone sliding into my Ram, so I drove my old CJ to work. It is a blast to drive. But I have to tell you. I enjoy my Ram at least as much to drive. At least when traffic is moving.
To CJ has a crappy Jasper motor in it that I just installed this fall. Suppose to have had low miles on it. But, when you start it up, if carries over 70lbs of oil pressure then after about 15 minutes of highway driving, it is down to 35lbs and the engine gets pretty noisey at that point. This is not good of course.
Not sure if it is main bearing, oil pump or both!
Oh well! The Old Jeep still did good.
See ya! :The Old Jeep still did good.
