True but the lining would wear gradually in most cases and one would notice it starting to slip.

Forgot to say that a bad solenoid would throw a code 37.

LOL, that's why it took me forever to diagnose mine. I had never seen one that simply shed its linings, it was like poof, no TC lockup.

Sad thing is it only had about 30K on it as well, and very little towing, never in OD mode.........

does the trans temp light still work......reason im saying this is when i had problems with mine it was the trans temp sender pigtail. yours is a re mine is a rh but it caused the exact same problem. no lu and no od. (right after i installed the new trans) if the light is burned out or not wanting to work for some reason you would never know.

Im not even sure that i HAVE a trans temp light. Ive never seen it...

So so far it could be the TPS, OD solenoid, or TC. Apparently OD relies on way too many things to work.

I doubt the TC is bad, it has seen very little use since the rebuilt. Driven 30 mins to work a few times a month and to the store on weekends....Never strained stomped on or anything.

The PCM is throwing a TPS code so my guess is there.

Code 37 was mentioned earlier. How do I see if that code comes up? My OBDII scanner didnt pull it, only the TPS code.

I drove it to work today and wanted to pull my hair out. I noticed that the shift points are WAY early....like, it goes from first to second within 2 seconds and it makes taking off from a stop VERY sluggish. Is that controlled by the TPS?

With the key off first, turn it on, off, on, off, on and look at the check engine lamp(don't crank). Count the blinks of the light. a longer pause means it is starting the next number. It usually starts with a code 12 (blink pause blink blink pause....) It ends in code 55. I bet you will see 12, 37, 55. I think there is a sticky on codes.

You should do the test light test that I posted above. That will narrow it down to the PCM circuit or the tranny.

I just found TPs sensors on summit or jegs (forget which one) for 3rd gens for $200. That's about half what the dealership gets.

as for your issue, I'd look into cleaning your TPS... drill a small hole in the back and pour in some alcohol... run it through a few times, then let it dry and seal it with silicon. I got this off here (do a search for TPS and you'll find the mod)... then I did the capacitor and potentiomenter mod and it not only fixed my isses with my tps (made my tranny act real squirrely) but now I can control when it shifts into OD and lockup by adjusting the TPS voltage. worth looking into.
