Timing case of fisrt gen 12v fit a 2nd Gen 12v??

I posted about an oil leak that my friend has on his 97 12v. Another memeber on here has a timing case that was off a 1st gen. Would found the crack on his timing case and have put appoxy on it. Would a 1st gen timing case fit on a 2nd 12v if the appoxy does not work?? Thanks for the help
