timing

I just bought a 92 one ton and the accelleration is not as responsive as my 92 three quarter ton. As far as I can tell, both trucks are all stock. I also noticed that the valves in the one ton are a bit louder. the one ton has only half the mileage(157,000 miles). It doesn't climb grades as fast either. could my timing have slipped? I also wonder if the valve lash could be out. Any help would be appreciated. By the way, both trucks are 5 speed manual.

Check the 1st gen part of of the Tech Facts section of the site for instructions on turning up the pump. Loose valves can hurt the power, search around in the 1st gen forum for hints on that as well. There is info on setting the timing in there, too. Also, I'm gonna beat my dead horse some more and tell you to make sure you're getting full throttle travel at the pump.
