ticking sound and other Qs

ticking sound coming from under hood at Idle. Not sure where its at, could it be injector pump? it does not run any different, it just has a tick or a pinging, like a washer on a loose bolt. Maybe valves I do need to get my valves lashed I would also like to get my timing bumped alittle while its down, but nobody around here does it that I know of, except the big $$$$. When I sold this truck the first time the guy had taken the pump to a guy we know that works on big trucks and has had some work done but not real clear on what. I might have to get ahold of him and find out for sure. This is a 215hp pump. I do need some injectors too, but should I go with the 370s or the 275s. any inbetween there? I am hooked up to a trailer more times then non and am starting to get gauges, currently running the 215 pump, with ground fuel plate and star wheel cranked to the hilt then back a few clicks! with a bhaf and blocked of wastegate. any help on any of these would be great? just wondering my next steps of bigger and better things! thanx

Doodah:

Do you have gauges yet? If not, I would suggest you get some, especially being "hooked up" and with the mods you have. High EGT's will melt the pistons. Regarding the ticking, it could be the overflow valve. Real cheap from Marty Tompkins.

The ticking is the over flow valve. The spring has gotten weak.

I would say yes. That little ticking will carry throughout the engine. that doesn't mean the lift pump isn't bad.
