Ticking sound from fuel lines on 96?

If I'm next to the truck on the drivers side, or underneath right at the end of the t case I can hear a ticking sound from the fuel lines, listened with a stethoscope and its definitely coming from them. The pump itself doesn't have noises coming from it though. Noise doesn't vary if its cold or if I have been driving it. Normal or sign of a problem?

Mine ticks, and I figured it was my lift pump I changed my fuel filter and it went away. I don't know if its good or bad though?

Mine does the same thing, I assume it's normal. Sounds like the relief valve in the pump is opening and closing with every pump stroke and allowing "spurts" of fuel to flow through the return line and make the noise.

all of my 12v's have done it... it's the sound of the lift pump resonating back along the line to the tank.

my red truck quit doing it for about 10 minutes after I installed a new lift pump and then she went right back to her little song

Both my trucks have been doing it for most of their 200k plus lives.
I just live with it.

I figured it was normal for the piston LP/P pump combo, I'm going to check my fuel pressure eventually though, the truck has 391K on it. Thanks.

Aren't there two kinds of ticks? One is the normal kind that you can especially hear with a mechanical fuel pressure gauge from inside the cab. The other is a tickity tack tack sound; maybe from a lift pump going bad??

All 12v's do it I have been told, and every 2nd gen 12V I have been around has done it. Nothing to worry about.
