Throttle cable connector

Throttle cable connector
Can someone tell me how to disconnect the throttle cable from the ball on the throttle lever. I have tried prying on it, pulling, etc, but am afraid I may break the connector if I try too hard. This is on a 1995 Cummins. I need to do this to insure the low idle is resting on it's stop. Then measure from the back of the bracket (that the throttle cable is held in) to center of ball and set it to exactly 5.0 inches (126.5 mm) by adjusting the length of 'throttle lever to injection pump lever'. At this point I will check TPS output and it should be 1.0 +/- 0.2 volts. At WOT it should be 2.2 to 2.9 volts higher than at idle position. If it is not correct the 'throttle lever to injection pump lever' can be adj up to +/- 1 mm to to meet voltage requirements. If voltages are not within specs change TPS.
The above routine is copied from the Dodge Truck shop manual. Thanks for any help on the connector.
Sam.

Re:Throttle cable connector
MY '96 linkage was replaced under the recall, and the mechanic just sprayed Liquid wrench on the connectors and use a screwdriver to pop them off the ball fitting. The new ones snapped on easily. The old ones corroded and bound up the linkage, thus the recall.
