Thermostat quality? Gates vs Stant
#5
Two choices for the good one... Cummins and Dodge...
-Cummins OEM T-stat was ~$28 with 2 rubber gaskets.
-Exact same Cummins OEM T-stat box with Dodge stock label... 2x the price, gaskets extra...

I should have also asked what the stock stat temp is for a 12 valve. There is a lot of info in stat threads (a lot of it probably unfounded) regarding what temp stat is best for our trucks.
Thanks for the replies.

Im sure they dont - and nobody said they did. If you look at the one that comes from Cummins and compare it to the others, the differences will be more than obvious. I originally bought a Stant and after actually looking at it (and reading about bad experiences people have had with aftermarket stats) - it went right back to the store. I dont like paying Cummins prices anymore than anyone else does but Im not going to sacrifice my engine to save a few $$ on a thermostat.

FWIW, I had to change mine in the middle of a Sat. night, no chance to get a Cummins unit. I put the premium NAPA unit in, and I cannot complain. It was 20ish bucks as well though.
Given a chance to use genuine Cummins I would though.
