Taller Gear

Taller Gear
I want to put a taller gear in my truck. Since its 4wd do I need to put a matched gear in the front pumpkin? I dont have any experience with 4wd's and the guys at worked have told me yes I need to and no I dont need to....depending on who I asked.

If you run the same size tires on the front and rear, you MUST keep both frt and rear gears the same ratio. Otherwise its busted transfer case or other related drive componets.
The only way you could get away with running different ratio's frt and rear, would be to engage the 4wd only in mud or sand.

If you actually would like to use 4wd, then yes, you must get the same gears for the front and back. (an exception would be something like 4.11's at one end and 4.10's at the other-that's livable, especially off road where some tire slippage can happen without undue stress.)
I can guarantee this: If you make a major change to one end and not the other, you'll find out quickly how bad of an idea that was if you can get it to go into 4wd at all.
