Sudden Drop in Mileage?!
On average, I get about 400 miles to the tank.

However, the last two tanks of fuel only got me 250 miles?!?!
The truck still runs fine, I dont see any fuel leaking on the ground?

I have not checked the fuel lines (Return line) for leaks.
I have plan to change the fuel filter and oil this weekend.
I have a clean (New) air filter.
The truck starts and runs fine... just seem to be loosing mileage?

Anyone out there have any ideas on this? Could my timing have slipped?

I appreciate any thoughts or ideas on this one.... thanks

Rich.

Sounds like good places to start. May have been a batch of poor fuel. Also check the fuel prefilter/heater. Also, do you drain a little fuel out with each fill to eliminate water?

Fuel prefilter R/R

Re:Sudden Drop in Mileage?!
That's about what I get on a tank now (400 or so), but during cold weather (last week down to 0*F), mileage drops like a rock. I notice a drop w/winterized fuels too. I know my timing is off, but not sure how much mpg loss is due to that. When my truck was new (after ~20k mi anyway), I used to get 550 - 600 miles/tank. Started dropping and never came back even in summer.

A weak or broken overflow valve will affect power & idle, but you'd most likely notice that. Mine ran very badly w/a bad overflow valve.

Have to watch speed carefully: I notice a big drop above 65 mph. Required hp to move at higher speed rises very rapidly; so even short trips @ high speeds can use more fuel than one might think... of course, I'm just guessing there... ;D

Hope to have my timing reset soon, so will find out how much difference in mpg it makes.

Regards,
-Scott

Re:Sudden Drop in Mileage?!
Well I doubt this is the problem but, buddy of mine had the same problem with his 90 F150 4x4. It was getting like 19mpg then just all of a sudden it went to 10mpg. We checked everything, come to find out the U-joints had went to the bad. I doubt this is your trouble, but I dont think it would hurt to check it out. Just my $0.02.
Here is 2 more cents.

My 95 4x4 did the same thing. A big part is winter fuel, but, I put in a K&N filter and did a vavle adjust, changed fuel filter and cleaned pre filter screen. Miles are back up.
