Struggle getting nv4500 in
I bought a reman NV4500 from, man-trans out of Tallahassee, having a guy put it in, knows what he's doing, anyway, got the old one out, went to put the new one in, would go all but 1/4-1/2" in. So he pulled it out, checked some measurements, spline etc, put it back in, same thing, any ideas as to why it won't go in all the way? I'm wondering if the pilot bearing is making this happen, or something else. Anyone have a problem like this? Its on a 1994 2500 cummins. Thanks

I don't know, will find out tomorrow, wonder if the offered 2 different size pilot bearings?

I noticed on the tranny I bought, has the upgraded mainshaft, wonder if this is the shaft that goes thru the clutch, into the pilot bearing. Being called upgraded, would that mean it may be bigger? thanks

Input shaft and main shaft are two different things. The only upgraded input shaft is the 1.375" shaft. If its gone this far, it fits your clutch. Have you tried pulling it in with the bolts? Sometimes you'll have a bit of an angle on the shaft vs. the inner race. Use the bolts on the bellhousing to square it up and it'll usually go in fairly easily. You can also lift the front of the engine to tip the back down a bit, and you can wiggle the tranny a bit easier. Making it square is the biggest thing.

Good catch Tate i seen main shaft and my brain interpreted input shaft. and a bit of warning on that bolt tip. only use the bolts to square it not to pull it together, that can result in damage to the pilot bearing and having to remove the trans and do it all again
