strange happeneings

OK, here we go, the old 95 still runs great, still getting good mileage, but when the fuel level starts to get low, around ten gallons left in the tank, it gets hard to start. If I hit the go pedal just a bit it fires right up. Then going down the road, it starts cutting out and dies like it is out of fuel. I can get started back up with a little work, kind of like starting it up after you change the fuel filter. Luck has it that a gas station has always been just down the road. Omce its filled up it starts and runs just fine and has never taken more than 28 gallons to fill up. I know I could just keep it full, but I am afraid what evers going on will get worse. Any advise would be great, Darl Absher III

I've heard of the fuel pick up line in tank having a small hole and it causing problems after the fuel drops to that level.

I would also do a fuel pressure check to insure health of pump and system.

Dalton is right, my 3500 had the same problem. There are some self tapping screws used to hold the tank module together whose sharp tips are well known to wear a hole in the pickup tube. I went two years before fixing mine, just kept it above half tank. I ended up buying a new $300 module but some folks have just altered the way the module works with a new hose. The hose in the stock module is similar to a self coiling air hose, permanently loopy, and hard to come by. I've heard of others who have patched the hole, seems like a short term fix to me. Whatever you do make sure to file the sharp tips off the screws before reinstalling the module.

My 95 had the same problem with the tank module comming apart and damaging the pick up tube coil. I repaired mine with a piece of gas hose.

Alright guys, thanks for the answers, I had a feeling I would be pulling the tank. Guess I can finally fix the fuel gauge that hasen't worked in about six years now. Thanks Darl Absher III

I find it easier to tip the box up to access the top of the tank instead of dropping the tank.
