........Moved to Gen Forum....

I'm ready to invest a little into my Stock 1993 w-250 4x4. She is just a baby with 247,000 miles on a stock motor and tranny.
I tow a medium size car hauler trailer on occasion and use this truck as my backup vehicle.
I'd like to keep her forever but feel like she needs a little bit more .......power.

My tranny is first on the list.

There is a lot of info about these trannys and I get a bit overwhelmed, can you guys give me some advice about picking the right tranny setup?
  • New or rebuilt tranny?
  • performance valve body?
  • tourque converter (low stall vs other)

These are areas I see people talking about. In your opinion, is there a winning combination that really makes your truck work well?

I will turn up the power on the motor a little but nothing real wild. I would like to put an exhaust brake on it to after the tranny is dialed in.

Let me know what you guys think. And, thanks

If you are wanting to run an EB, you'll need to swap up to a 47RH with the lock-up converter. With the 518 it'll be a waste of time and money to try and run an EB as there is no lock-up between engine and trans.
