Re:stock fuel plate
Black3500, you are going to get a lot of opinions on sliding the stock plate. I will tell you what I did and you can decide for yourself.
I slid my plate almost as far forward as I could. I pushed the AFC cover forward when I put it back together. I partially pinched the rubber wastegate line with a small C-clamp to increase boost. I clicked the star wheel forward about 20 clicks.
I had gauges, and I am accustomed to using them to control temps. I drove the truck this way for a year before I went for a new plate and GSK and 370's.
The changes I made gave me a new truck.

HOW HIGH DID YOUR EGT'S GO ? I ALREADY SLID MY STAR WHEEL FORWARD LIKE 30 CLICKS AND STILL HAVE NO SMOKE. WHEN I SLIDE MY PLATE FORWARD SHOULD I TURN THE STAR WHEEL BACK AGAIN? OR IS THERE A STARTING POINT I CAN GO FROMM WITH THE STAR WHEEL?

Re:stock fuel plate
My EGT's were well within limits as long as I didn't abuse anything towing. I could pull my 29' Airstream up Jellico at 75 mph and still be safe, However, I did increase the boost by limiting the wastegate flow.
Slide the plate and judge the AFC from there.
However, perhaps you cannot rely entirely on my experience.
Better get the gauges...at least the pyro
Finally, I see in another thread that you are concerned about under 1500 power. If you plan on pulling hard at low RPM, you are going to fry the tranny very quickly!

Re:stock fuel plate
The TC lock-up switch will help you to DEMOLISH your tranny faster than anything. You will like it, but the tranny won't.
The autos are not bad. I got 220K out of mine, and it was going not too bad. With my mods, it would slip pretty easy, but if I was sensible, I could still do OK.
Get a 3000GSK and you tranny will last longer. Then you will be able to lock up in 3rd and cruise as high as 80mph wwith a load, no problems.

Re:stock fuel plate
I have the stock plate slid forward, and I slid the AFC housing forward all the way. I have been dialing my starwheel back a ton lately to try to get rid of the smoke on launch. Of course, I launch out of 2nd gear, since 1st is pretty much useless when not towing. I have noticed a couple of things by sliding the plate forward:
First, there's a little more horsepower. The truck accelerates a lot better than before.
Second, there's a LOT more smoke!
Third, I am not getting very good mileage.
Therefore, tomorrow (hopefully) I will be installing a #11 plate and a 3000GSK. Hopefully that will help on a couple of levels.
I'll be sure to let you know what I find out.
As far as the tranny goes, sorry. I don't have an auto, so I don't know the first thing about them!

With my mods I get 13-19 mpg...the added power can kill your mileage if you have a heavy foot.
Once you slide it forward you will enter the "DARK SIDE" and always want more!

Re:stock fuel plate
Big tires and a tall rear end gear are your problem. Slide the plate forward all but about 1/16 or 3/32 as to far forward and the governor arm won't even ride on the plate. You can add a boost elbow to increase the turbo pressure. When you get to trans time buy the best not the best price and you will be very happy. I drive my truck like I stole it and have no trans problems. I expect to be at or over 600 in a couple months and I don't foresee any trans problems.

Re:stock fuel plate
i can check if the governer arm will touch my holding the pedal at wide open throttle with the afc housing off correct? the arm should be just touching the underside of the bottom hump right?

Re:stock fuel plate
You can check the alignment of the governor arm but the travel of the arm is only available while the engine is running and has boost to allow the travel. You may be able to use a compressor set at 25-30# to send a boost signal to the AFC to fool it, you can try that I never tried it but that may work.
