STOCK EGT numbers

I know I know... this has probably been asked a thousand times I am sorry!

BUT here goes 97 5 speed manual all stock with the exception of the 4" TBE. I have just installed an EGT gauge w/ pyro in manifold, for no other reason then I like to know what's going on and my numbers seem a little odd.

Idle 300ish

HWY cruising 65 600ish

empty horsing on it cant seam to get it above 800 maybe 850.

My only other experience with diesel is my old 06 3rd gen which even stock would cook right up to 12,000 just trying to beat traffic onto the interstate.

My thought is with the 5 speed I am just always up in RPM high enough to keep them low but I want to make sure.

BacktoBasics:

Your EGT temperatures seem pretty normal to me Sir. With the way you described your truck being set-up I would not worry about those readings at all.

One correction in your post though,....you stated your "06' 3rd Gen would cook right up to 12,000 degrees"........!!
I think you mean 1,200 DEGREES,....NOT 12,000 degrees, right???
If your exhaust gas temperatures were 12,000 degrees that motor is done!

Anyway,....I think your numbers are fine.
