Sticky Throttle
95 160 pump, throttle keeps sticking. Got it to loosen up once by working it and spraying it with pentating fluid and added a spring but now its back to sticking. Its not in the linkage its in the pump and feels like it catches on somethin.
is this a common problem? Is there an easy fix or difficult?
Thanx, bean

Its quite possible that the cable is freyed in the casing at the pump. I know there was a DC recall on throttle cables for a number of years to have that repaired.
Other than that, the ball sockets on the pump linkage may be getting fretted and siezing up. Replacing them shouldn't be hard, I would just go to Cummins for those parts instead of paying double at the dealer.

Its not the linkage, with all the linkage off it will stick right at the pump. There is somethin inside the pump where the shaft goes in there that is making it stick, feels like a flat spot or somethin.

Oh, well I am not sure on that one.. I wonder if the shutdown solenoid is not fully engaging?? I dunno if that would even affect it.
I haven't seen one of those pumps apart, so I can't comment intelligently.. (that happens more times than not... )

Define linkage.
The pivot for the main linkage (the one with the spring around the center shaft) rides on some plastic bushings. They wear out. mine did the same type thing. I replaced the bushings (5 bucks) and it doesn't stick anymore.

Not linkage. With ALL the linkage off the main shaft that goes into the pump, not the front one with the spring, will hang open and has a real rough spot in it, enough that the return springs will not over come it and will stay open trying to run away.
