Sticking in 2nd gear under heavy accel.
The truck has started its newest trick, won't shift out of 2nd under heavy acceleration, like merging onto the highway. Shifts fine if I'm driving it easy or just normally. I have to let off the fuel and let it wind down for a second, then it will shift to third hard.
It seems to have started this after I manually downshifted to 1st last weekend when towing. Made a sort of emergency stop, and I shifted to 1st at about 30 mph, which I don't normally do. Any ideas?

What you did last week might have caused the present behavior -- or not.
I had shifting problems that turned out to be caused by mechanical binding of the throttle position sensor potentiometer. I fixed it by putting washers between the tps pot and its mounting.

I had an 01 that did the same thing a few years ago. Ended up being a relay in the tranny if I remember correctly. It has been a few years & a couple trucks.
