starter bolt nut sos

I am in the process of putting back togethor my 96 12v and am about to put the bed back on and brand new inner and outer fenders. However I need to know if the top starter bolt on the starter needs a nut or not....The guy at the Dodge dealer says you do...now it is an 8 dollar part. Which doesnt matter how much it is its only money. But I stuck a screw driver into it and it would not come out the other side. And usaully starter bolts thread right into the engine housing...What do you guys know and think...Thanks alot.

I`m thinkin` he was lookin` at the 5.9 GAS engine witch uses a bolt in one hole on the starter, and a stud with a nut in the other hole. different engine. the parts jockies are always getting the 5.9 gas and 5.9 diesel engines mixed up.
