Sorry thought of another ??
Why does everybody fill their fuel filter before installing it? Isn't this what the primer is for?
I'm about to do my first one in a few days and have 2 reasons this bothers me:
- Spilliage on a freshly paved drive way
- I'm not sure if a want a diesel container sitting around to only use the once a year I do a filter.

so u dont have to manually pump all day to get the filter full! and to save wear on ur arm! but for the 24v its not a manual pump! recomend filling it full or close to it before installing on a 24v! but since urs is a 97 no worry about that!

It's best Not to fill it first. If you do that fuel will not be filtered.
As for the button, get a stick [ broom handle works ] and you can pump the button from a place that won't tear up your arm.
Run the stick down by master cylnder and pump away. After you get a few drops of fuel from the bleeder screw, close it and give it a few pumps for pressure and it will start and never miss a beat. Trying to bleed it out with the starter is very costly in the long run !

PS : If your pump is good about 25 pumps will fill the filter.
