So Mad I Could Sell The Truck

Major problem I took my truck to the shop that installed my injection pump because of an oil leak. They said it was the afc housing leaking. Witch I already new if you remember form my last few posts the 2 lower screws had stripped. and I had tried to fix them. well they heli coiled the two lower ones and told me it was pensacola diesels fault they charged me a but load for it 160 and some change to be exact. Well after I paid for it with my credit card so I could pick it up after they closed I got to thinking they had to pull those 2 screws out to put the solenoid on when the put the pump on. Anyone see what im saying? oh and the screw on the back of the solenoid bracket was not on when I got the pump back from the shop the first time I know this because when the first ones stripped. I noticed and put another on. So im already ****** off well on the way home tonight im taking my time. when I hit the on ramp I get on it to hear a totally new whistle from the truck sounds like a little girl screaming comes in at around 8-12 psi of boost. I have a movie of it if anyone wants to listen. Im hoping its a boot and not a turbo issue its going back to them. Monday and im having a talk with the owner because it did not sound like this at all when I left it there. My question is it safe to drive or not? Im just really lost on what to do now guys ive been having problems with this truck for about 4 months now and im getting ****** about it I think im going to talk to them then sell it. I don't really pull much anymore. I love the truck but hate all the other stuff that's going on. Sorry about my spelling and grammar but its late and im mad.

pull your intake tube off and check for free play in the turbo...If none then start looking for a boost leak

Guys this is not the only way they screwed me over. when they installed it they cracked the windshield and when I talked to them about it they said that was like that. when they got it. and I was under the impression they would tell me if it was going to cost to fix it this time now one said a word about money till it was done. If they say my turbo is screwed Monday im going to tell them my attorney will be contacting them.

Chris, Chis, Chris.... calm down. Go have a beer buddy, it'll be ok. Alright so you had a couple stripped AFC screws and I'm sure they took the AFC off to fix them, right? If your 97 is like mine, then on the back of the AFC is where both your waste gate for the turbo and the boost signal comes from the manifold. Check there first, the boost signal from the manifold is a smaller line, if you're getting a whistle, I'll bet you an ice cold beer they either forgot to tighten it or left it off. Either way, they were right there and had to unhook those boost lines to fix it, so start there.

Oh and guess what? That "third screw" is missing on my fuel shutoff bracket too, I forgot to put it back in one time and lost the screw... a year and a half ago.

You can drive it with a boost leak, it won't lay over and die on you, but if you have turbo damage (which I have a hard time believing), I wouldn't drive it. Check that AFC, I bet that's your leak.

Dude, it'll be ok, I promise.

Id avoid doing business with them if you get a bad feeling about their honesty of lack thereof. 99% of shops will own up to stuff like that if theyve done it, and the other 1% ruin the trust for everyone else

Sounds like a bad shop. These little finicky things are always the biggest pita. Once you get it worked out, then you'll like the truck again. BTW, couldn't they just drill ane re-tap the stripped holes on the afc?

Turns out it was an intake bolt the one towards the front that i did not know was loose and they thought was just a brace. They are going to fix the windshield.

A shop also stripped my AFC bolts, they "replaced" my #10 with their home-ground plate. I noticed it after I made them change it back. The bolt hole is deeper than the threads so all you have to do is tap deeper into the hole and get a longer bolt, no drilling necessary. Just don't crank on the bolt when you tighten it.
